The Soundcarriers have been making records since 2007 – when they released their first single, ‘I Had A Girl,’ but their sound is based on a shared love of records from an earlier era: notably those of The Free Design, David Axelrod, John Barry, Pentangle and The Velvet Underground, to name a few.
In the period since the Nottingham based band (singer Leonore is from Manchester) have made 2 albums, both released to considerable acclaim on the Melodic label. The debut, Harmonium, was released in 2009, promptly followed by last year’s set, Celeste (listen to it here on Spotify) . The latter was recorded in a disused, reverb-y warehouse using analogue tape and sounds all the better for it: the band are also big favourites of both the Freak Zone and Marc Riley shows on 6 Music.
